A giant mango tree in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi has become a popular attraction, drawing hundreds of visitors from different parts of the country every day.

Located in Mondumala village near the Harinmari border, the Surjapuri mango tree stands on nearly two bighas of land. Local people and agricultural experts describe it as one of the largest mango trees in Asia.

The tree is believed to be around 200 years old. Its huge branches spread over a vast area, making it look like several mango trees growing together.

The tree belongs to local resident Islam Uddin, who inherited it from his ancestors. He said he earned around Tk 50,000 by selling mangoes from the tree last year. Although production is lower this year, he expects to earn Tk 50,000–60,000 due to higher prices.

The famous Surjapuri mangoes of Thakurgaon are known for their sweet taste and small seeds. Visitors come to the area not only to enjoy the mangoes but also to see the remarkable tree.

Local residents want greater government attention to preserve the tree as a heritage site for future generations.
