The scheduled testimony against 28 people, including former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, in a crimes against humanity case over the deaths of nine people in Mohammadpur during the July uprising has been postponed.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 fixed October 12 for the next hearing on Thursday (October 8), following a prosecution plea.
Prosecutor Shahidul Islam Sardar sought time as the 10th prosecution witness was scheduled to testify. The witness had appeared before the tribunal, but the prosecution requested an adjournment as an investigation officer was giving testimony in another case.
The ninth witness, Sabrina Afroze Sebanti, sister of slain Mahmudur Rahman Saikat, testified on September 30. Saikat was killed in police firing on Nurjahan Road in Mohammadpur on July 7, 2024.
Four accused are currently in jail, while Nanak, Taposh and several others are absconding.
The tribunal ordered the trial of the 28 accused to begin on May 10 after framing three formal charges against them.
