Naogaon: lightning strike kills 8-yr-old boy

An eight-year-old child died after being struck by lightning in Atrai Upazila of Naogaon. 

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon (October 8) in the Raipur Parer Ghat area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rohan,8, son of Jamirul Islam from Raipur Madhyapara village in the upazila's Kalikapur Union.

Locals said gusty winds, heavy rain and lightning suddenly began in the area that afternoon. Rohan had been heading home from Bhabanipur Bazar. On his way, he was struck by lightning upon reaching the Raipur Parer Ghat area. Although locals quickly rescued him and attempted to take him to a doctor, he died before reaching the hospital.

Confirming the incident, Md Mahabub Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station said, the child's death due to lightning was deeply tragic. Legal proceedings regarding the matter are currently underway.
