The Doha Film Festival has unveiled a 15-film competition lineup featuring movies from the Middle East and other regions, with seven films directed by women.

The second edition of the revamped festival will be held in Doha from November 19 to 27, with Yemeni-Scottish filmmaker Sara Ishaq's drama The Station set to open the event. The film explores the impact of Yemen's civil war on the country.

Palestinian stories feature prominently in the competition, with four Palestinian films included in the lineup. They are Hosam Abu Dan's Thirteen in Gaza, Rabab Khamis' documentary Sama, Muayad Alayan's Conversations with the Sea and Mohanad Yaqubi's Revolutionaries Never Die.

Other entries include Moroccan filmmaker Tala Hadid's Bardi, Cameroonian director Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu's House of the Wind and Angolan filmmaker Hugo Salvaterra's My Semba. The Asian selections include 9 Temples to Heaven by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, which is Thailand's international Oscar submission.

Eleven of the 15 competing films are supported by the Doha Film Institute. The festival will offer awards including $75,000 for best narrative, $50,000 for best documentary, $45,000 for artistic achievement and $15,000 for the gender-neutral performance acting award.

Doha Film Institute CEO Fatma Hassan Alremaihi said the festival aims to provide a platform for filmmakers who challenge conventions and bring unheard stories to the screen.

The revamped Doha Film Festival has evolved from the institute's Ajyal Film Festival, which focused primarily on youth and family-friendly cinema, into a broader international film event.
