In Dinajpur, 676 patients have received treatment for dengue. Of them, 45 are currently undergoing treatment, while two have died.
Between January 1 and October 8—a period of nine months and eight days—629 of the 676 dengue patients recovered and returned home after receiving treatment. However, all 676 patients contracted the disease in Dhaka; effectively, no one contracted dengue within Dinajpur district itself.
Dinajpur Civil Surgeon Dr Md Golam Rasul Rakhi and the Director of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, Dr Md Jahangir Kabir, confirmed the information on Thursday (October 8) afternoon.
According to data from the district health department, a total of 99 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Dinajpur between October 1 and the afternoon of October 8. Currently, 45 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. The breakdown is as follows: 19 at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, two at the 250-bed General Hospital, eight in Ghoraghat, one in Birol, one in Birganj, one in Nawabganj, one in Phulbari, seven in Parbatipur, one in Hakimpur, two in Kaharol, and one in Bochaganj.
Two dengue patients have died in Dinajpur district so far: Harun, 48, from Chhoto Hatishal village in Nawabganj Upazila, who died on October 6, and Nuzhum, 19, from the Gurgola area of Sadar Upazila, who died on July 21.
Dr Md Jahangir Kabir, Director of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, said dengue patients are being treated in isolation wards and that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure they receive proper care.
Dinajpur Civil Surgeon Dr Md Golam Rasul Rakhi said there is no outbreak of dengue in Dinajpur. All the patients treated or currently admitted to various hospitals in the district contracted the disease in Dhaka. Afterwards, they returned home to their families and were admitted to hospitals.
Alongside ensuring the availability of dengue treatment services and medicines in the district, operations to eliminate mosquitoes and destroy their breeding grounds are underway. To prevent dengue, everyone must keep their homes and surroundings clean and ensure that water does not stagnate anywhere.
People are advised to promptly visit the nearest hospital or Upazila Health Complex for a dengue test and seek medical treatment without delay if they experience fever or symptoms of dengue. Keeping Dinajpur free from a dengue outbreak is possible only through public awareness and collective effort.
