Mohammedan Sporting Club will not be able to play their Bangladesh Football League fixture against Arambagh Krira Sangha at their designated home ground, the Cumilla District Stadium, on Friday.
The match has instead been pushed back by a day and will be played at Shaheed Bir Sreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Saturday, with no other BFL fixture scheduled at the venue that day. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has accordingly made the change to the fixture.
The development has also cast fresh doubt over whether Cumilla will remain a BFL venue for the 2026-27 season. The Cumilla District Sports Association has asked the BFF not to use the stadium for league matches this season, citing the local sporting calendar and other commitments.
The Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium has in recent seasons become a popular home venue for two of the country's most historic clubs, Mohammedan and Abahani. Mohammedan have used the Cumilla ground as their home since last season, while Abahani have also adopted it as a home venue. The stadium had previously served as a home ground for Bashundhara Kings before the club moved to its own arena.
With Cumilla's status now uncertain, the question is where Mohammedan and Abahani will play their remaining home fixtures if the stadium is ultimately removed from the BFL venue list.
For Mohammedan, however, there is no immediate decision on a permanent alternative.
"For now, we will play the next match in Munshiganj. We have not taken any decision regarding the home venue," said Mohammedan Sporting Club director (sports) Mostakur Rahman.
The BFL's third round was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, with Mohammedan-Arambagh among the fixtures. The match's relocation means the league's venue map is already undergoing adjustments just weeks into the new season.
