Travel quota cash dollar limit raised to $3,000

Bangladesh Bank has raised the limit for purchasing US dollars from licensed money changers under the annual personal travel quota to $3,000 at a time, up from the previous $2,000.

The central bank’s Foreign Exchange Policy Department-2 (FECPD-2) issued a circular in this regard on Thursday (October 8).

Under the new directive, licensed money changers can sell a customer up to $3,000 in US dollar notes and coins at a time against the applicable annual personal travel quota.

Previously, the maximum amount that could be purchased at a time was $2,000, meaning the single-purchase limit has increased by $1,000.

The circular also said the remaining portion of a customer’s applicable annual personal travel quota may be sold in notes and coins of other freely convertible or usable foreign currencies, subject to availability.

This means that although the single-purchase limit for US dollars has been raised to $3,000, travellers can purchase other foreign currencies against the remaining portion of their annual travel quota, provided sufficient quota remains available.
