One gets life in drug case in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 8: Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court-2 Judge Abu Khan Shaheen Kanak on Wednesday afternoon has sentenced drug dealer Rafiqul Islam to life in prison for possessing 900 grams of heroin and also fined him Tk 1 lakh, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

Additional Public Prosecutor Md Anisur Rahman confirmed the verdict, citing the case records. He said Rapid Action Battalion-12 arrested Rafiqul on August 23, 2022, after searching a Sithi Paribahan bus travelling from Natore to Sirajganj in the Ramarchar area under Salanga Police Station (PS). 

The law enforcement agency recovered 900 grams of heroin, two mobile phones and cash from him. RAB-12 Deputy Assistant Director Md Amzad Ali later filed a case with Salanga PS. After hearing testimony and finding the charges proven, the court handed down the sentence.
