Dhaka customs officials on Thursday morning recovered three egg-shaped pieces of gold hidden inside a passenger’s body at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). He had arrived from Sharjah.
The passenger, identified as Arman Uddin Siddique, arrived at HSIA in Dhaka on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah at around 6:30am.
Acting on a tip-off, a preventive team of the Dhaka Customs House was monitoring different areas of the airport.
The team stopped Arman Uddin for a search after he completed immigration and reached Baggage Belt-2. They found the egg-shaped gold pieces in his rectum. The pieces were wrapped in white adhesive tape.
According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), each piece weighed about 430 grams, making the total weight 1.29 kg. The gold was 24-carat.
