State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said academic degrees alone are not enough for career success, stressing the need for practical, technical and language skills.
He made the remarks at the 2nd ULAB-TESOLBD International ESP Conference at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in the capital on Friday (October 9).
Bobby Hajjaj said Bangladesh aims to double its economy by 2034, requiring skilled workers capable of meeting global labour market demands.
He stressed the importance of English communication, technical knowledge and problem-solving skills, calling for a shift from rote learning to practical education.
He also urged educational institutions to promote career-oriented education, innovation and entrepreneurship to engage young people in productive activities.
The conference was chaired by ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shamsad Mortuza. UGC member Professor Dr Masuma Habib, Really English CEO Nigel Killick, and writer and journalist Anisul Hoque also spoke at the event.
