Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said students must have sound knowledge of computers to keep pace with the modern world, stressing the need for technological skills, digital learning capabilities and an understanding of artificial intelligence.

“Traditional education alone is not enough. Students must also acquire technological knowledge, the ability to learn through digital methods and an understanding of artificial intelligence. Without these skills, it will be difficult to keep pace with the future world,” he said.

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a reception for meritorious students of Chittagong Collegiate School on Friday afternoon.

Recalling his school days, Amir Khosru said the institution had historically maintained a strong record of academic excellence.

He said entering the school brought back many memories of his student life, including morning assemblies, cricket matches and the library. Memories of school days remain vivid even when people forget many other events in life, he added.

The minister said he still remembered the names of his teachers and those who had worked at the institution, including its office staff.

Expressing concern over the condition of the school's library, he stressed the importance of libraries in developing students' knowledge and reading habits.

He also expressed surprise that the school had no computer laboratory, saying such facilities were essential for educational institutions in the current era. He pledged to arrange a computer laboratory for the school.

Earlier in the morning, the minister inaugurated a 3.5-kilometre cycle track built by Chattogram City Corporation in Patenga. The track is exclusively for cyclists and is the first initiative of its kind in the country, according to the report.

The programme was chaired by acting headteacher Muhammad Tajalli Azad. Chattogram Education Board Chairman Professor Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Chattogram Regional Deputy Director Muhammad Faridul Alam Hossaini attended as special guests.
