9,000 yaba tablets seized, 2 arrested in Jatrabari

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) seized 9,000 yaba tablets from a passenger bus at the Mayor Hanif Flyover toll plaza in Dhaka's Jatrabari area on Friday, arresting two young men in connection with the haul.

The arrested were identified as Chiyucha Chakma, 23, and Kalo Chakma, 22.

According to a DNC press release, the agency launched the operation following intelligence that a large consignment of yaba was being transported to Dhaka on a bus from Khagrachhari.

During the operation, officials searched a Shanti Paribahan passenger bus, registered as Dhaka Metro-B-14-8998, near the western side of lane No. 4 at the toll plaza.

The tablets were recovered during searches of the two passengers, while a mobile phone was also seized. The operation was led by Mohammad Raziur Rahman, deputy director of the DNC's Dhaka Metro (North) office.

A case was subsequently filed against the two suspects with Jatrabari Police Station.
