An office of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, an organization for freedom fighters, was allegedly vandalized and valuables, including important documents, were taken away in Baraigram upazila of Natore.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night, October 8, at Moukhara Bazar in the municipal area of the upazila.

On Friday, October 9, the office’s commander, freedom fighter Golam Mawla, 75, filed a written complaint with Baraigram Police Station against unidentified individuals in connection with the incident.

Golam Mawla said the office had been operating as the freedom fighters’ office for Baraigram Municipality and Baraigram Union since 2004, following written permission from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He said the office was approved by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and that he had been serving as its commander since then.

According to his complaint, unidentified individuals vandalized the office furniture on Thursday night and took away three wooden windows, iron grills, 14 plastic chairs, a table, an iron-framed upholstered chair, a cupboard and important documents belonging to freedom fighter members.

Golam Mawla said Ziaur Rahman was a freedom fighter and expressed dissatisfaction over the incident, stating that such an act was unacceptable while the political party founded by him was in power. He demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

Nizam Uddin, a tea stall owner next to the office, said he had been running his business there for many years and had seen freedom fighters use the office regularly. He said he closed his shop and went home on Thursday evening. When he returned on Friday morning, he found the office vandalized and its belongings missing.

Baraigram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Laila Jannatul Ferdous said, "she had advised those concerned to file a written complaint with the police after learning about the incident."

Baraigram Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahbubur Rahman said, "the police had received a written complaint. Legal action would be taken following an investigation, he added.
