Four people were electrocuted in separate incidents in Sirajganj and Noakhali districts, Singra Upazila of Natore District and Pirojpur District recently.
SIRAJGANJ: A 28-year-old man died after coming into contact with an electrical wire while cleaning a coconut tree in Raiganj Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
The victim, Pappu Sarkar, was the son of Enamul Sarkar and a resident of Sherpur Upazila in Bogura District. He lived with his wife and family at his in-laws’ home in the Telijana area of Raiganj and earned a living by cleaning trees.
The accident occurred around 9 am at the home of Aminul Islam, a resident of Telijana, where Pappu was working on a coconut tree, said Ahsanuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Raiganj Police Station (PS).
Pappu was electrocuted after coming into contact with a nearby power line. Fire service personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the body, the police officer said.
NOAKHALI: A 45-year-old farmer was electrocuted on Thursday evening after coming into contact with an illegally wired electric trap set to kill rats in a paddy field in Senbag Upazila of the district.
The victim, Sheikh Khaja Mainuddin, was collecting grass for his cattle when he was electrocuted on his way home. Police recovered his body from beside a paddy field in the Ghorkata area on Friday.
The landowner, identified as Zakir Hossain, 30, allegedly set up the live wire to kill rats and went into hiding after the incident came to light on Friday morning.
Senbag PS OC Md Hazrat Ali Milon said the body had been sent to Noakhali General Hospital for an autopsy. Legal action will be taken based on a complaint from the victim’s family, he added.
SINGRA, NATORE: A 63-year-old farmer, Rezaul Karim, died of electrocution while going to feed fish in a pond in Singra Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 11 am in Parsaoil Village of Hatiandah Union. Karim, son of late Hashem Ali, went to a pond near his home to feed fish. He was reportedly electrocuted while trying to retrieve a key through a window of a tin-roofed house beside the pond. Neighbours later found him and informed his family.
Singra PS OC Rafiqul Islam said police were sent to the scene after receiving the report. As the family had no complaint, the body was handed over to relatives.
PIROJPUR: Solaiman Hossain Pinju Faraji, 28, son of Saidur Rahman Faraji of Betmore Village and former president of Betmore Union Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal under Mathbaria Upazila of the district, was electrocuted on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was installing an electric bulb at his own chicken farm near his residence at 5 pm on Tuesday when he suddenly came in contact with a live electric cable and was electrocuted. Locals rushed him to Mathbaria Health Complex where doctor on duty declared him dead.
