Food Minister Afroza Khanam has said the country has sufficient food stocks to meet demand and no major supply crisis is expected during the upcoming Ramadan.
She made the remarks while briefing journalists after inspecting Chattogram Jetty and Silo on Saturday. She later visited the Dewanhat CSD warehouse and inaugurated a conference room at Halishahar CSD.
The minister said the government was working to ensure a steady supply of essential food items at affordable prices. Although rising global fuel costs could put pressure on prices, steps were being taken to maintain market stability.
She added that the government was working to resolve food import complications and address staff shortages in the Food Department.
During the visit, she also reviewed storage facilities and said restoring unused infrastructure could increase the country’s food storage capacity.
