Police have arrested three people over the murder of college student Chowdhury Fuad Hasan Rohan, 19, in Rajbari, while angry locals set fire to three houses in Dadshi union of Sadar upazila on Saturday, demanding justice for the killing.

The arson took place around noon in the Dhuldi Raghunathpur area, targeting the houses of Alal Sardar, Lal Chand Sardar and Firoz Sardar.

On information, firefighters, district police, Detective Branch (DB) police and officials of the upazila administration rushed to the scene and took steps to bring the situation under control.

Locals demanded a fair and impartial investigation to identify those actually responsible for the murder and bring them to justice. They also called for ensuring that no innocent person was harassed and that the real perpetrators were not spared.

Rohan’s father, Md Farhad Chowdhury, demanded the death penalty for those involved in his son’s murder. He alleged that hired criminals had killed his son over a previous dispute and called for a fair trial.

Hafizur Rahman, sub-officer of Rajbari Fire Service, said firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving information about the fires and began working to bring them under control with assistance from the administration.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Faizur Rahman said the houses linked to those arrested over Rohan’s murder had been set on fire by angry locals. Authorities were taking necessary measures to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses and to stop the situation from deteriorating further.

Tension remained high in the area, with the victim’s family and local residents demanding a proper investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible
