The Global Democracy and Development Forum (GDDF) has demanded financial support, official recognition and training for domestic election observers in local government polls.
The demands were raised at the forum’s launch event at Dhaka University’s Faculty of Law on Saturday, where its full executive committee was also announced.
The five demands include funding for observers’ accommodation, transport and meals, official recognition by the Election Commission, training, international experience-sharing visits, and budget allocations for registered organisations.
GDDF General Secretary Muhammad Rashib Ahmed Howlader said the network had prepared a list of around 36,000 trained observers for the 2026 national election, but only 10,000 could be deployed due to funding shortages.
The forum said adequate financial and institutional support was essential for effective election monitoring.
