A traditional boat race was held in a festive atmosphere in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, on Saturday.
The competition took place in the afternoon near South Kali Bridge on the Kumar River, organised by Dakshinkandi Jubo Samaj.
Hundreds of people gathered along both banks of the river to enjoy the traditional rural event.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam attended the event as the chief guest. Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Mazharul Islam and Superintendent of Police Shahriar Mohammad Miyazi were present as special guests.
Abul Hasan Titu, former general secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Government Bangla College in Dhaka, presided over the programme. Leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations from different areas of the district also attended.
The organisers said the event aimed to preserve Bengal’s folk culture and rural heritage while creating a festive atmosphere among local people.
