Barcelona have equalled the club's best-ever start to a La Liga season after beating Getafe 3-0, winning their first eight matches under Hansi Flick.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the achievement matches the run made by Tata Martino's Barcelona side in the 2013-14 season. The Argentine coach's team dropped points in the ninth round after a goalless draw with Osasuna.
Martino's side remained unbeaten until the 14th round before losing 1-0 to Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.
Flick and his players now have a chance to break the record and set a new benchmark for the club's best start to a league campaign.
However, winning a ninth consecutive match will not be easy. Barcelona will face fourth-placed Real Betis at La Cartuja next Saturday.
Speaking about the milestone, Flick said the team must focus on its next match against Galatasaray in the Champions League.
“The most important thing is to think about the next match, which is against Galatasaray. We want to make history, but the most important thing is that the players remain fully focused and continue doing their job,” he said.
