A 26-year-old man has died of dengue at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, raising the death toll at the hospital to 30 this year.
The deceased, Saif, was the son of Hazrat Ali of Jamalpur Sadar. He was admitted to the hospital at 8:20 PM on October 10 and died while undergoing treatment at 6:05 AM on Sunday.
According to preliminary medical findings, he died after irreversible cardiac and respiratory failure caused by dengue shock syndrome.
The information was revealed in the hospital’s latest dengue situation report on Sunday, October 11.
According to the report, 3,621 patients have been admitted to the hospital with dengue this year.
In the past 24 hours, 56 new patients were admitted, while 71 recovered and returned home. Currently, 137 dengue patients are receiving treatment at the hospital, including 84 men, 36 women and 17 children.
Dr Md Selim Uddin, assistant focal person of the hospital’s dengue ward, said patients continued to be admitted with dengue, while many recovered and returned home. One patient died during the period.
He urged people to remain cautious to prevent dengue infection.
Doctors advised people to seek medical attention promptly if dengue symptoms appear. They also urged patients to go to hospital without delay if they experience warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, extreme weakness or breathing difficulties.
