To accommodate additional passengers, the weekly off-days of five trains have been cancelled on specified dates.
The off-days of Cox’s Bazar Express on October 19 and 20 have been withdrawn. The off-days of Jahanabad Express and Ruposhi Bangla Express on October 19, Padma Express on October 20, and Madhumati Express on October 24 have also been cancelled.
Railway authorities also plan to add 23 metre-gauge coaches to passenger trains in the eastern zone and six broad-gauge coaches in the western zone. Locomotive supplies will be arranged according to demand.
To maintain schedules and reduce delays, monitoring by officials and inspectors will be strengthened at major junction stations and signal cabins. Patrols will be deployed to protect railway bridges and tracks, while signalling systems, coaches and locomotives will receive closer maintenance. Relief trains will remain ready to respond to emergencies.
Security will be tightened at major stations, including Dhaka, Airport, Joydebpur, Chattogram, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Khulna, with support from Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB).
Magistrates will be assigned to Dhaka Railway Station (Kamalapur) and Airport Railway Station on October 19 and 20. Surveillance by RNB, GRP and railway staff will also be increased to prevent sabotage involving trains, stations and railway tracks.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Habibur Rashid, State Minister for Bridges and Shipping Rajib Ahsan, relevant secretaries and department heads, the commissioners of Dhaka and Gazipur metropolitan police, and representatives of transport owners’ and workers’ organisations.
