EC to discuss union parishad elections on Monday

The Election Commission (EC) will hold a meeting on Monday to discuss the schedule and overall arrangements for union parishad (UP) elections and other local government polls.

The 13th commission meeting will be held at the Election Building at 10:30 AM, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.

EC Deputy Secretary Md Shah Alam confirmed the meeting on Sunday.

The agenda includes plans and timelines for holding local government elections at different levels, including union parishad polls in phases across the country.

The meeting will also discuss the delegation and distribution of authority among officials of the National Identity Registration (NID) Wing to improve its administrative and financial operations.

Other agenda items include reviewing the current condition and maintenance of machines used for NID card printing and management at the EC’s Personalisation Centre, speeding up the printing of pending cards, settling outstanding bills and taking policy decisions on new contracts.

The commission is also expected to review the report of a committee of experts formed in connection with the proposed contracts and related matters.

The meeting will further consider a draft of the National Election Award Policy 2025 and discuss related issues.
