Veteran Bangladeshi actress Nasima Khan, a popular face in Bengali and Urdu films from the 1960s to the 1980s, died at a hospital in Uttara, Dhaka, on Sunday (October 11) evening. She was believed to be in her 80s.
She breathed her last around 7:30PM while undergoing treatment, according to the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association’s organising secretary, Sony Rahman.
Nasima had been suffering from illness for a long time and received treatment at home and abroad. Her condition deteriorated recently, leading to her hospitalisation.
Actor Omar Sani paid tribute to the veteran actress in a social media post, recalling her personality, education and the opportunity to work with her.
Nasima made her film debut in 1959 with 'Jago Hua Savera' and later gained popularity as a heroine in the 1961 film 'Je Nadi Maru Pathe'. She remained a prominent figure in Bengali and Urdu cinema for decades.
Her last appearance on the big screen was in the Impress Telefilm production 'Kusum Kusum Prem', released in 2011.
