A Bangladeshi expatriate worker died in Saudi Arabia after a wooden plank fell on his head from a six-storey building at his workplace.

The deceased, Faisal Mia, 28, was the son of late Md Chan Mia of Nama Boalia area in Katiadi municipality of Kishoreganj. He died on Saturday, October 10, after spending two days in an intensive care unit (ICU).

According to family members and local sources, Faisal was seriously injured when the plank fell on him at around 8am on Thursday, October 8. He was rescued and taken to a hospital, where he remained under intensive care before succumbing to his injuries.

Faisal had been living in Saudi Arabia for around 14 years and worked for a company in Mecca to support his wife and two children.

His family said he had spoken to them the night before the accident and promised to return home within 10 to 15 days. He had also advised his family members to live together peacefully. His return had been planned for November 6.

His sudden death has left his wife and two children in uncertainty. His young daughter, Mawa, has appealed for her father’s body to be brought back to Bangladesh so she can see him one last time.

“I want my father back. Please arrange to bring him home. I want to see my father,” she said.

Faisal’s elder brother, Sohel Mia, said the family had spoken to him the night before the accident and had no idea it would be among their last conversations.

The family has sought assistance from the Katiadi upazila administration to bring Faisal’s body home. They have also appealed for financial assistance from the government to support his wife and two children.

Katiadi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamima Afroze Marliz said the administration would provide all possible assistance, including necessary communication and arrangements to help repatriate the body.
