Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder dealers across the country will suspend sales for two days to protest alleged harassment of businesses.
Selim Khan, the president of the LP Gas Business Cooperative Association Ltd, announced the decision on Monday at the Jatiya Press Club.
Under the decision, all LPG cylinder shops across the country will remain closed on Thursday (October 15) and Friday (October 16).
Selim Khan said LPG dealers were repeatedly facing harassment over cylinder prices and supply issues. He said the two-day shutdown was intended to protest these problems and press for the fulfilment of the traders’ demands.
He warned that dealers would launch tougher protest programmes if their demands were not met.
At the press conference, association General Secretary Nasiruddin Nasim alleged that LPG cylinder marketing was effectively controlled by just five companies.
He also accused the companies of increasing LPG prices in an authoritarian manner, expressing frustration over what he described as their dominance of the market.
The planned shutdown could disrupt LPG sales nationwide for two days, potentially affecting households and businesses that rely on cylinder gas for cooking and other purposes.
