A 60-year-old has been arrested with 37kg of hemp in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla.
The arrested man is Md Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan, a resident of Phultali village in Debidwar.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of SRB-11, CPC-2, arrested him during an anti-drug drive in the Phultali area of the upazila on Sunday noon.
Initial investigations suggest that Zahirul had allegedly been collecting cannabis from border areas of Cumilla for a long time and selling it wholesale and retail in the district and other parts of the country.
The information was disclosed in a press release signed by Md Imrul Hasan, acting company commander and senior assistant director of SRB-11, on Monday (October 12).
It said the drive was part of the ongoing anti-drug operations and that such drives would continue.
Debidwar Police Station Officer in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman said the man was, later, handed over to police after being detained with the cannabis.
A case was filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act, and he was sent to court on Monday afternoon.
