A Dhaka court on Monday showed Serniabat Moinuddin Ahmed Abdullah, son of former lawmaker Abul Hasanat Abdullah, arrested in a murder case filed over the killing of Firoz Talukder Palash during the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order following an application by the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Azim Ahmed of Mirpur Model Police Station. The officer said the move was necessary for a fair and impartial investigation.
According to the case statement, Palash was injured by gunfire allegedly fired from a helicopter near Mirpur-10 roundabout on July 19, 2024, while the student-led protests were underway. He was later taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His wife subsequently filed a murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station.
Police sought to show Moinuddin arrested in the case based on information gathered during the investigation.
He was previously arrested by the Detective Branch of police from Gulshan-2 in Dhaka on October 26, 2024 and has remained in custody since then.
