The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled voting for November 12 to fill the reserved women’s parliamentary seat vacated by BNP lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty following her resignation.
The election schedule was signed by EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Monday, October 12.
According to the schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is October 26. The papers will be scrutinised on October 27, while appeals against the scrutiny will be filed on October 28 and settled on October 29. The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is November 1, and election symbols will be allocated on November 2.
Misty resigned following allegations of assault, looting and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka, in which her name surfaced. BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reportedly directed her to step down. Parliament Secretariat subsequently declared the seat vacant.
