In Gaibandha's Sadullapur Upazila, the funeral prayer and burial of an elderly father have been stalled due to a dispute with his son over the division of property.

Halima Begum, the daughter, objected to the funeral and burial, alleging that she had not received her fair share of the property. As a result, the body of 75-year-old farmer Nazir Uddin Bepari remained lying in the courtyard of the house.

Uncertainty regarding the funeral and burial persisted until 4:30 PM on Monday (October 12). The incident has caused a stir in the area.

Nazir Uddin Bepari was a resident of Boalidah Bakshiganj village in the Upazila's Dhaperhat Union. He passed away at his home around 2:00 AM on Sunday. Although the family had scheduled the funeral prayer for 10:00 AM, it did not take place due to the property dispute.

Halima Begum alleges that her brother, Idris Ali, took advantage of their father's illness to have all the property transferred to his own name. She stated that until she received her rightful share of the property, she would not consent to her father's burial.

In an attempt to resolve the dispute, a local proposal was made to pay Halima Begum Tk. 1.5 lakh. However, she rejected the offer, insisting that her rightful claim to the property be ensured rather than accepting a cash payment.

Md. Shahidul Islam Shipon, Chairman of Dhaperhat Union Parishad, described the incident as unfortunate. Local initiatives were taken to resolve the dispute and facilitate the funeral and burial quickly. It was later decided that efforts to settle the property dispute would be made after the body was buried.

Iftekhar Mahmud, In-charge of the Dhaperhat Police Investigation Center, stated that upon learning of the matter, the police visited the scene and spoke with the relatives. Arrangements were subsequently made for the burial of the body.
