Cox’s Bazar International Airport is likely to be inaugurated in the first week of November, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said on Monday.
The official inauguration date will be announced after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s availability is confirmed, the minister said at a meeting on operating international flights from Cox’s Bazar Airport at the Secretariat.
The prime minister is scheduled to visit Japan from October 26 to 29. Millat said the inauguration date would be finalised after Tarique Rahman returns from the visit, adding that the prime minister is expected to inaugurate the airport as an international facility.
The minister said discussions are underway with relevant stakeholders to determine which airlines will operate international flights from Cox’s Bazar. The number of flights and the countries to be connected through the airport have yet to be decided, he added.
He said further details would be available after consultations with the airlines concerned.
