A second Burmese python weighing around 10 kilograms was rescued in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh on Monday, raising curiosity among local residents.
The snake was found in a hole beside the house of a local resident, Israel, in Uttar Darjipara village under Tetulia Sadar Union in the morning. Local residents rescued it and later informed the Forest Department, whose officials took the snake into their custody.
The python was around eight feet long and weighed approximately 10 kilograms.
Earlier, on September 29, another Burmese python weighing around 13 kilograms was rescued from Banglabandha Union in the same upazila. The rescue of two pythons in the area within just 13 days has sparked interest among locals.
Israel said he spotted the snake in a hole beside his house in the morning. With the help of other residents, he rescued it safely and informed the Forest Department.
Nurul Huda, acting officer-in-charge of the Tetulia Forest Department (Beat Office), said the rescued python was being kept under observation. It would be released into a suitable natural habitat later.
However, officials have yet to determine where the two pythons came from.
