70 sacks of illegally stockpiled fertiliser seized

The upazila administration seized 70 sacks of fertiliser during separate drives against alleged illegal stockpiling in Panchagarh Sadar upazila on Monday, fining two people Tk 25,000 in total.

The drives were conducted in Birpara village under Haribhasa Union and Bajrapara area under Garinabari Union on Monday afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fahmida Sultana led a drive at the house of Delwar Hossain, a fertiliser and pesticide trader in Birpara, where 61 sacks of fertiliser were seized. A mobile court fined him Tk 20,000 over the incident.

In a separate drive, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohan Minji seized nine sacks of fertiliser stocked without the required documents at the establishment of Zahidul Islam in Bajrapara and fined him Tk 5,000.

The fines were paid immediately by the two individuals. Officials from the upazila administration and agriculture department, along with police personnel, were present during the drives.

UNO Fahmida Sultana and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohan Minji said the drives were conducted based on confidential information. They said the fertiliser had been seized and the individuals fined for failing to produce the required documents. The seized fertiliser is scheduled to be sold to genuine farmers at fair prices on Tuesday, according to the source report.
