Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das has setthe national record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a Testmatch, when he effected eight dismissals behind the wicket during the ongoingTest against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

Liton broke the record set by former Bangladesh captain and wicketkeeperKhaled Masud Pilot, who had seven dismissals against Zimbabwe in Harare in2004.

The 22-year-old record was broken after Liton took four catches and completeda stumping in Afghanistan's first innings. Three more catches early in thevisitors' second innings, taking his match tally to eight dismissals, headded.

With Afghanistan still in batting to chase down a daunting 479-run target setby Bangladesh, Liton has an opportunity to increase the tally. The world record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a Test match is11, jointly held by England's Jack Russell, South Africa's AB de Villiers andIndia's Rishabh Pant.

Russell achieved the feat against South Africa in 1995, de Villiers againstPakistan in 2013 and Pant against Australia in 2018. Now, Liton has every chance to break that record also. "BSS
