GOURIPUR, Oct 12: A press conference was held on Monday in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh, alleging corruption, irregularities and nepotism in the fertiliser dealer recruitment process.

The conference was addressed by Md Golam Kaziyel Hajat Munshi (Shahi Munshi), owner of M/s Munshi Enterprise and President of the Municipal Krishak Dal.

Speaking at the press conference held in the Gouripur Press Club auditorium, he alleged in a written statement that irregularities were committed in the recruitment of fertiliser dealers across the 10 unions and municipality of Gouripur Upazila.

Applicants spent an additional Tk 10,000 along with the government deposit of Tk 10,000 to prepare the necessary documents. However, questions have arisen over the transparency of the process, as the list of applicants and various information related to the recruitment were not properly made public by the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), the upazila agriculture department and the district administration.

The written statement further alleged that although a lottery related to the recruitment was held on 24 September 2026, his name was listed first in the lottery but he was not given the appointment.

It also alleged that political influence, nepotism and irregularities were involved in the dealer recruitment. Instead of giving priority to genuinely farmer-friendly businesspeople, in some cases, advantages were given to individuals favoured by influential quarters. If irregularities occur in the recruitment process, there is a risk that the smooth distribution of fertiliser at the farmer level will be disrupted.

The written statement demanded that the authorities concerned publicly disclose the fertiliser dealer recruitment list and process in a transparent manner, investigate the allegations impartially, and appoint qualified individuals in accordance with government policy.
