Two firefighters fell ill due to heavy smoke inhalation while working to extinguish a fire that broke out at Mansur Khan Plaza in Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar on Monday (October 12) night.

The affected personnel were identified as Firefighters Zillur Rahman (40) and Nazrul Islam (50).

They were rescued from the scene at around 11:00 PM and admitted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for emergency treatment.

Md. Alha of the Dhaka City Unit Racecourse Center, who transported the injured personnel to the hospital, stated that Zillur Rahman and Nazrul Islam became sick due to dense smoke while conducting fire control and rescue operations inside the building.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Habibur Rahman, In-Charge of the DMCH Police Camp, said that the two fire service members were brought to the hospital from Chawkbazar in an ill condition and were given immediate medical care in the emergency department.

Attending doctors reported that both firefighters have been kept under close observation.
