Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former chief adviser to interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus was allegedly harassed by a group of people linked to the 'banned Awami League' at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Monday, according to multiple media sources.
The incident reportedly occurred as Yunus, who was in a wheelchair, was passing through the airport lobby when several individuals allegedly approached him and began shouting and making derogatory remarks.
The group reportedly confronted Yunus over various issues, including arrests in Bangladesh and the country’s political situation, while repeatedly directing hostile comments at him.
“Why have you come here?” one of the individuals was heard asking, according to accounts of the incident.
As the confrontation escalated, members of Yunus’s entourage reportedly moved him to a more secure area inside the airport to prevent further disruption.
