The first division hockey league served up contrasting flavours at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium on Tuesday, with Hockey Dhaka United turning the contest into a one-sided goal rush while Shishu Kishor Sangha had to grind out their victory after a cagey opening half.
Hockey Dhaka United wasted little time in stamping their authority against Dhaka Young Star Club. From the opening whistle, their attacks came in waves, leaving Young Star struggling to cope with the pace and pressure.
The floodgates opened early and the goals kept coming. Hockey Dhaka United raced into a 5-0 lead by half-time, effectively putting the result beyond doubt before the interval.
Nazmul Sabit Mahmud was at the heart of the scoring spree, finding the net twice from field play. Md Rifat, Rajib Das and Ashraful Alam added one field goal apiece, while Md Ramim Hossain converted a penalty corner to complete the first-half rout. Young Star tried to stem the tide after the break and eventually found a way onto the scoresheet. Late in the match, Elias converted a penalty corner to give his side a consolation goal. But there was little doubt about where the momentum lay as Hockey Dhaka United closed out a 6-1 victory.
The second encounter offered a markedly different spectacle. Shishu Kishor Sangha and Combined SC traded attacks in a much tighter battle, but neither side could break the deadlock in the first half. With the scoreboard still blank at the interval, the pressure mounted on both teams to find the opening.
Shishu Kishor Sangha finally made the breakthrough after the restart when Md Rabbi struck a field goal, giving his side the advantage.
Combined SC pushed for an equaliser, but Shishu Kishor held firm and then delivered the decisive blow. Md Tahsan added another field goal to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond reach.
While Hockey Dhaka United's match was settled by an early avalanche of goals, Shishu Kishor's victory was built on patience, persistence and a strong second-half response.
The league continues on Wednesday with Wari Club facing Dhaka Wanderers at 1:20pm, followed by Mukto Bihanga Tarun Sangha against Farashganj SC at 3:15pm, both at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
