The Ministry of Education and the Directorate of Madrasah Education have directed all madrasas across Bangladesh to organise cultural competitions to mark Nazrul Year, with activities scheduled to continue until October 31.
The directive applies to ebtedayee, dakhil, alim, fazil and kamil-level madrasas, which have been instructed to arrange the competitions using their own resources.
The initiative aims to promote the literary and cultural legacy of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, encourage students’ creativity and identify emerging talent. It also seeks to engage students in cultural activities and foster unity, harmony and mutual cooperation among them.
According to the directive, competitions will cover Nazrul’s Islamic songs and ghazals, hamd and naat, poetry recitation, solo acting, solo dance, essay writing, prepared speeches and extempore speeches.
The competition categories and topics will vary according to students’ educational levels to ensure their participation based on their interests and abilities.
For essay-writing competitions, students must submit original handwritten work and use references where necessary. The word limits range from 500 to 2,000 words, depending on the students’ educational levels.
The Directorate of Madrasah Education has also instructed district education officers and upazila secondary education officers to monitor the activities and ensure implementation of the directive in their respective areas.
