Govt approves purchase of 9 LNG cargoes from Trafigura Amid Energy Crunch

The LNG will be supplied from December this year through 2027 at a price $0.10 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) below the Japan Korea Marker (JKM) benchmark, the statement said.

The number of cargoes may be adjusted by mutual agreement between the two parties.

Separately, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, at its 33rd meeting of 2026 on Wednesday, recommended in-principle approval for two LNG procurement proposals submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The first proposal involves processing supply offers from Cheniere Marketing International LLP and Trafigura Pte Ltd under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement.

The second proposal concerns the direct procurement of LNG from BP Singapore Pte Ltd, Sahara Energy Resource Ltd and Shell International Trading Middle East Ltd FZE.

The committee approved the second proposal, citing the urgent need to maintain an uninterrupted gas supply in the country in the public interest.

The latest decisions reflect the government's efforts to secure additional LNG supplies and maintain stable domestic gas availability amid uncertainty in global energy markets.
