Garment workers blocked roads in Uttara near Dhaka’s airport for the third consecutive day on Wednesday (October 14), demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000, disrupting traffic and causing severe congestion.

Workers from several garment factories took to the streets in the Azampur area in the morning before moving towards the airport road, bringing traffic to a standstill, police said.

The blockade triggered long queues of vehicles on the airport road, leaving commuters and passengers stranded in traffic for hours. Many passengers were seen getting off buses and other vehicles and walking to their destinations.

Office-goers, workers and other commuters faced significant difficulties reaching their destinations on time due to the disruption.

Police said traffic movement on the airport road remained suspended amid the protest.
