Saudi authorities executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Mecca region on Wednesday after a court convicted them of committing an immoral act inside a mosque, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.
The two individuals were identified as Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar. Security authorities arrested them, and following an investigation, the case was referred to a competent court, which sentenced them to death under discretionary punishment, citing the seriousness of the offence and the violation of the mosque's sanctity.
The ministry said the verdict was upheld by the relevant authorities before a royal order was issued to carry out the executions.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to enforcing Islamic law and maintaining the sanctity of mosques, the ministry warned that similar offences would carry legal consequences.
