Observer Online Report

At least 103 direct and transit flights between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have been cancelled or disrupted following restrictions imposed at Saudi airports, leaving 15,779 passengers facing uncertainty, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).

In a statement issued on Thursday, the CAAB said the affected flights included 42 direct flights and 61 transit flights.

The aviation regulator is monitoring the situation and coordinating with the airlines concerned to revise flight schedules and assist affected passengers.

Of the 42 affected direct flights, 17 belonged to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, 10 to US-Bangla Airlines, eight to Saudia and seven to Riyadh Airways.

Transit services operated by several international airlines have also been affected.

The disrupted transit flights include 22 operated by IndiGo, 14 by Emirates, eight by Qatar Airways, seven by SalamAir, six by flydubai, three by Air India and one by EgyptAir.

The disruption has caused significant uncertainty for thousands of passengers travelling between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, as well as those connecting through other regional airports.

The CAAB said it was continuing to assess developments and work with airlines to minimise passenger inconvenience and manage schedule changes.
