A German court has jailed two men for plotting attacks against Jewish and pro-Israeli figures on behalf of Iranian intelligence, sentencing them to eight-and-a-half and four-and-a-half years in prison.
The Danish national, identified as Ali S., received an eight-and-a-half-year sentence, while his Afghan accomplice was jailed for four-and-a-half years. Both were convicted of espionage-related offences and attempted murder.
German prosecutors said Ali S. had acted on instructions from the Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The case comes amid growing concerns among European countries over alleged Iranian involvement in plots targeting Jewish and Israeli interests. Iran has previously denied such allegations.
Earlier this month, the United Kingdom charged two Iranian nationals over an alleged plot targeting the Jewish community in northern England.
