Two police personnel were injured when a group of alleged drug traders attacked the Joydebpur Railway Police Outpost in Gazipur after the arrest of a man and a woman with yaba tablets on Thursday.
The attack took place at around 5:15 PM at the police outpost inside Joydebpur Railway Station. The attackers allegedly carried locally made sharp weapons in an attempt to free the detainees, police said.
The injured were identified as Railway Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ATSI) Nurul Islam and Constable Ashikur Rahman. They were later taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station Zainal Abedin said railway police arrested the two suspects with yaba from platform No. 2 of Joydebpur Railway Station in the afternoon.
Shortly after the detainees were taken to the outpost, a group of alleged drug traders attacked the facility. The attackers threatened police personnel before leaving the scene, he added.
Following the incident, railway police and members of Gazipur Sadar Metro Police Station visited the spot. Police said a drive was underway to arrest those involved.
