A 60-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant installed across two buildings of Faridpur Zila Parishad was inaugurated on Thursday, paving the way for the local authority to meet its internal electricity demand while supplying surplus energy to the national grid under a net-metering system.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md Mazharul Islam inaugurated the solar facility at noon. The solar panels have been installed on the roofs of the Zila Parishad engineering branch building and the Sadar VIP Circuit House (Dak Bungalow), operating under the Local Government Division.
Prior to the inauguration on Thursday morning, a formal agreement was signed between Faridpur Zila Parishad and Sales and Distribution Division-1 of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL).
According to Zila Parishad sources, a 40-kilowatt capacity solar unit was placed on the roof of the engineering branch building, while a 20-kilowatt capacity unit was set up at the Sadar VIP Circuit House. Electricity generated from the combined 60-kilowatt solar plant is now being fed directly into the national grid via net-metering.
Marsh Power Technology Limited, an enlisted company with the power distribution department, executed the installation. The project was implemented under a contract specifying that the vendor will oversee maintenance and repairs of the facility for the next 20 years.
The initiative is expected to cut the Zila Parishad's operational electricity costs while boosting renewable energy usage and contributing clean power to the national grid.
The event was attended by Faridpur Superintendent of Police Shahriar Mohammad Miajee, Zila Parishad Administrator Md Afzal Hossain Khan Palash, Chief Executive Officer Md Bakaheed Hossain, Local Government Division Deputy Director Md Iliyashur Rahman, Zila Parishad Executive Officer Sanjida Sultana, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Executive Engineer Mohammad Azharul Islam, WZPDCL Executive Engineer Pranab Chandra Debnath, and Zila Parishad Assistant Engineer Sheikh Shahidul Islam, alongside other senior officials.
Faridpur Press Club General Secretary Mahabub Hossain Pial and senior journalist Prabir Kanti Bala were also present.
