Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has strongly condemned and protested the incident of disrespectful behaviour towards Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, former chief adviser to the interim government, at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York, United States.
In a statement on Thursday, the party’s Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that followers of ousted autocrat Sheikh Hasina attempted to harass Dr Yunus at the airport. He said such behaviour was an expression of Sheikh Hasina’s vindictive politics.
Rizvi said Dr Yunus is not only the former chief adviser of Bangladesh but also a Nobel laureate and a globally renowned personality. He said such behaviour towards him had humiliated Bangladesh on the world stage.
He further said he believed Dr Yunus had been targeted because he had taken responsibility as chief adviser to the interim government following the student-public mass uprising of July-August 2024.
In the statement, Rizvi strongly condemned and denounced the incident.
