Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has made it mandatory to attach number plates to the front of motorcycles by November 15.
Previously, motorcycles only required digital number plates at the rear. Bike owners must now install manual number plates on the front at their own initiative. Legal action will be taken against non-compliance after the deadline.
BRTA issued an urgent public notice in this regard on Friday.
According to the notice, the Road Transport Act 2018 and Road Transport Rules 2022 mandate RFID-tagged retro-reflective number plates at the rear of motorcycles.
However, BRTA decided to display registration numbers on the front as well to strengthen traffic management and surveillance. Initially, owners must install manual plates following specified guidelines.
The front plate must be made of stainless steel or aluminum with a white background and black Bangla letters and numerals. No design or extra decoration will be allowed on the plate.
BRTA set different specifications for scooters and standard motorcycles. Scooter plates must measure 200 mm in length and 100 mm in width. For other motorcycles, plates must be 285 mm long and 50 mm wide.
Letter and numeral height must be at least 20 mm for both categories. BRTA urged all motorcycle owners to install front number plates following the guidelines within the stipulated deadline.
