At least four people have died after severe flooding hit Istanbul, with Turkey's interior minister describing the deluge as the worst the city has experienced since 1942.
The flooding followed heavy rainfall over 48 hours through Thursday morning, with precipitation exceeding the average rainfall for September and October.
Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said authorities were making every effort to assist residents while dealing with the worst flooding since 1942.
A 66-year-old man's body was recovered from beneath a bridge in Istanbul's Sariyer district on Friday morning. Three other people were reported missing in the district. Three additional deaths had been reported earlier, including one person who died from electrocution.
The flooding caused extensive damage to homes and businesses, submerging roads and parking areas across the city. Several vehicles were swept away by floodwaters and piled up in elevated areas.
Istanbul, Turkey's largest city by population, is home to around 16 million people.
