Police officer killed in road accident in Faridpur

A police officer was killed after an unidentified bus hit his motorcycle on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Bhanga, Faridpur, on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Hitler Biswas, 35, son of Subhash Chandra Biswas of Boro Dumrasur area in Gopalganj. He was serving at the Shainpukur investigation centre under Dhaka’s Dohar Police Station.

The accident occurred around 7pm on Friday near Bablatal Bus Stand in Chumurdi Union of Bhanga upazila.

According to police and family sources, Biswas was riding his motorcycle home to Gopalganj from his workplace on Friday afternoon to spend the Durga Puja holiday when the bus hit his motorcycle, leaving him seriously injured.

Local people rescued him and took him to a hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Touhid Ahmed said police were trying to identify and detain the bus involved in the accident.

Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
