40,000 Golden GPA-5 achievers to get laptops

The government has decided to provide laptops to around 40,000 students who achieved Golden GPA-5 in the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations to boost their technological skills and academic development.

The decision was disclosed at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Education on September 10, according to the meeting minutes. Secondary and Higher Education Division Senior Secretary Abdul Khaleque said the proposed budget for the division in the 2026-27 fiscal year was Tk 57,301.68 crore, up 42.7 per cent from the previous revised budget.

Committee Chairman Md Selim Bhuiyan said the committee also recommended regular learning-outcome assessments, improved teacher training and greater transparency in education spending.

The initiative was previously announced in a September 1 post by the education minister's media cell. However, the distribution schedule and detailed eligibility criteria have yet to be specified.
